 A Cry From Beyond

Book #2 in my Vampire series~

January 2nd 1891

An affair filled with surprise~

Tonight, after attending Kara’s wedding, I returned home—my thoughts filled with such emotion.  I arrived an hour before the ceremony and entered the Victorian mansion. Suddenly, I sensed his presence—Tristen Sinclair. Momentary my heart stopped—for it had been years since our last encounter. Concern—washed through me—fearing my old friend’s reaction—once he too, sensed his betrayer—the bride’s escort.

Blocking all emotions from my thoughts, I entered the sitting area. Drawing in a breath, I walked toward the bride and my vampire friend. Sensing my unease, Kara touched my mind.

Lucian, I sense your turmoil—trust in my words—Tristen yearns for his old friend.”

“I cannot break through his thoughts Kara—yet I shall trust in your words.” I kissed my creator’s cheek and walked toward the vampire—awaiting his reaction. Tristen nodded hello and shook my hand—a sudden sense of ease calming my soul. Realizing how deeply I missed my old friend—I pulled the vampire into a brotherly embrace. Tristen stared back at me—an unreadable look in his eyes.

“It has been a long time—Lucian. I pray all is well. When I received the news Kara decided to wed—I felt it my duty to attend.”

“How have you been Tristen? I’ve thought quite often about you over the years. Are you staying in town for awhile?” Sensing Tristen a bit unnerved, I kept my questions minimal.

“Seven years buried beneath the earth becomes quite tedious—if you relive your past—night after night.”

My soul ached for Tristen—knowing, I caused this pain the vampire now endured.

Sensing my guilt—the vampire spoke, “You are not the cause of my pain—Lucian. You honored my dead wife’s last request—my friend. I believe the wedding march is about to start, please excuse me.”

Without a thought Tristen turned and walked into the candle-lit garden.  I cursed the fates—realizing the vampire buried himself beneath the earth until he could feel nothing at all.

As, I escorted Kara down the flower lined isle, I thought back—to another time—another place. Much has come to pass since that night—changing all our lives forever.
